Who is Senator Andris Riche?

Andris Riche (born 15 September 1947) is a former pastor and a Senator who became the president of the Senate of the Republic between 29 January, 2015, and 14 February 2016. He was imprisoned and exiled during Duvalier regime. In early 2013, then President Martelly termed him as 'demagogue' in Haitian politics. A 'demagogue' is a politician who tries to get support by making false claims and promises by arousing the emotions, passions, and prejudices of the common people. Andris is a self-claimed president of the defunct constituency since January 12, 2015. In January 2015, he appealed to the Superior Court of Auditors and Administrative dispute (CSC/CA) for a discharge for the former Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe and requested for a management audit for Lamothe as the Prime Minister (16 May 2012 - 14 December 2014), Foreign Minister (24 October 2011 - 6 August 2012) but not as the Minister of Planning (since 6 August 2012), because as a former Prime Minister, Lamothe is entitled to a relief. However, his plea was not well received by his peers.

Statement from Pastor, Senator Andris Riché

Statement from Pastor, Senator Andris Riché

A quite strong statement from a seating Haitian Senaator and a pastor. Statement from Pasteur, Senator Andris Riché

Recently, on February 29, 2016, following the announcement of the name of economist Fritz Jean as the new Prime Minister, Senator Andris Riche went back to his atrocious vocabulary before the press to describe how the Lavalas movement was started by the former President Jean Bertrand Aristide. He believes President Jocelerme Privert and Prime Minister Fritz Jean, both are followers of Aristide and members of his Lavalas party which has damaged the Haitian politic severely. He did not hesitate to refer the Provisional President Privert and Prime Minister Nominee Fritz Jean as rats, rabble, delinquents who only dress like humans. Senator Andris Riche from the Alternative for Progress & Democracy party was the Vice President of the Senate following the departure of former President Simon Dieuseul Desras; he was elected as the Senate President in January 2015. This Senator from Grand Anse is a Pastor by occupation. On December 16, 2006, he was kidnapped by gunmen while driving near a dangerous slum, but he foiled the kidnapping attempt by escaping after several hours in captivity.

Simon Dieuseul Desras or Andris Riché for Senate President

Simon Dieuseul Desras or Andris Riché for Senate President

Who will control the Haitian Senate, Simon Dieuseul Desras or Andris Riché?

When Senator Simon Dieuseul Desras won the court case that saw him reappointed to his seat earlier this month, he might not have anticipated that his return to presidency of the senate would also be a fight. The sitting senate president, however, Andris Riche, is not prepared to give the position up easily. Riche has said the senate will wait for a decision from the State, a decision that Desras has made plain could only be waged by an appeal of the Court's order, which is a provisional decision.
