In an exclusive interview with Le Nouvelliste on Monday night, July 25, 2016, Cardinal Chibly Langlois called on parliamentarians to choose "the lesser evil". As per Cardinal Chilby, Jocelerme Privert may not be the ideal person to lead the country, but the critical issues that the country is currently passing through such as holding of elections on the date set by the CEP and downward revision of the budget--- we have no better option than President Privert on whom we can depend. We should maintain him as the Provisional President as he is "lesser evil" than his peers who are busier to defend their own interest.

Candidates looking for well-paid job, according to Cardinal Langlois

His eminence Cardinal Chibly Langlois doesn't think for a moment that all these candidates interested in the upcoming election in Haiti are for real. Last weekend, while he was in the city of Alcibiades Pommayrac to celebrate a Mass, the Haitian Cardinal announced that he has doubt that those who declared their candidacy for the upcoming election have any interest in serving the people.

According to him, these candidates are looking for a well-paid job with all the benefits associated with it.

His eminence Cardinal Chibly Langlois is not hesitant. On May 1, while celebrating a Mass in the multipurpose room of Lamandou in the city of Alcibiades Pommayrac, he has expressed his doubt over the proclaimed purpose of the candidates participating in the forthcoming election. Their interest is more about earning money than serving the nation. They are mainly looking for a well paid job with every benefit associated with it. Chibly Langlois is a Haitian cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church and the President of Haiti's Bishops' Conference. He has been the bishop of Les Cayes since August 15, 2011. On February 22, 2014, Pope Francis has elevated him to the College of Cardinals.

Mass in Little Haiti, Miami this year was a special service for all those who attended the November 23 event in what is the largest concentration of Haitians in the United States. This special service was made so by the presence of Haitian Cardinal Chibly Langlois, the Diocese of Les Cayes, Haiti. The yellow T-shirt-clad parishioners came out en masse to see Haiti's first cardinal, the youngest appointed in his batch earlier this year, and the only one not already an archbishop, a title he was honored with shortly after.

What is a Cardinal in the Catholic Religion

As Haiti has been blessed with its first ever Cardinal in Cardinal Chibly, many may question just what this post denotes. Cardinals are, usually, ordained bishops and are described as princes of the church. They have the duty of making themselves available to the pope and to other individuals, as well as for meetings of the College of Cardinals. Mainly though, Cardinals play their most important role in electing the church's new pope once the old one has passed on.

Cardinals Nicolás de Jesús López Rodríguez and Chibly Langlois

The ascension of Bishop Chibly Langlois from Haiti to the Cardinal of the Catholic Church is considered by many as a disapproval of the service of Dominican Cardinal Nicolás de Jesús López Rodríguez by Vatican. As a successor to Cardinal Antonio Beras Octavio Rojas, López Rodríguez was appointed as the Cardinal for the entire Quisqueya on July 28, 1991. Cardinal Nicolás Rodríguez has become infamous for his racist remark in favor of resolution 168/13 that stripped away the most basic constitutional rights of nearly 210,000 innocent undocumented Dominicans of which majority are Haitian. Many countries, such as United States, Venezuela, Cuba and CARICOM member states has openly expressed their displeasure against his advocacy for resolution 168/13.
