CEP eliminates presidential candidate Willy Duchene

CEP eliminates presidential candidate Willy Duchene

Haitian presidential candidate Willy Duchene is the most one to be eliminated by the CEP. He was accused of holding a U.S. passport.

In a circular issued by the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP), it has been learnt that the name of Willy Duchene from Haitian Republican Party has been removed from the list of approved candidates to participate in the presidential elections on 25 October and 27 December 2015. This decision has been taken to ensure strict compliance with the Electoral Decree because Willy Duchene had submitted a false declaration concerning his nationality which is in contravention of Articles 135 of the Constitution, paragraph (1) and 36 of the Electoral Decree, paragraph (a). Upon verification, it has been found that Duchene is a US citizen; his name is recorded as a voter from Florida, United States of America since April 20, 1995. Duchene is the third candidate that the CEP has removed from the presidential race after Jacky Lumarque of the party VERITE and Francois Levelt of the Haitian Diaspora Party for Haiti (MUDHAH).

Haitian-American Tony Bennett has had his candidacy for the Haitian presidency approved by the Electoral Council. A controversy exists though as to whether he can legally hold the office.

Senator Marco Rubio against attempts to disqualify Haitian candidates

Senator Marco Rubio against attempts to disqualify Haitian candidates

U.S. aid to Haiti could be in jeopardy if US Senator Marco Rubio can have his way. He has proposed amendment to block aids to Haiti if the CEP attempts to disqualify some of the candidates in the upcoming election in Haiti for political reasons

Haiti risks losing U.S. Foreign Aid

Assessing Progress in Haiti Act (APHA) of 2014 is an amendment waiting for President Obama's signature. Senator Marco Rubio introduced the legislation.

Passage of APHA would affect U.S. aid to Haiti if the Provisional Electoral Council (PEC) eliminates candidates for political reasons. It has already eliminated ex-Prime Minister Lamothe and he is appealing the disqualification.

If enacted the U.S. Secretary of State would be obligated to give information to Congress on eliminations made for political gain by the PEC.

Paul Denis, the rejection of my candidacy on absence of décharge, "injustice"

Paul Denis, the rejection of my candidacy on absence of décharge,

Paul Denis has protested his exclusion in the electoral process. He called this an act of injustice on the part of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP).

Paul Denis, a candidate for the post of Senator of the Sud, while speaking on an interview with Bob-C on Radio Caraïbes on Monday morning, June 8, 2015 has said that the decision of the electoral council to reject his candidacy due to the lack of a certificate of discharge is an act of "injustice", unto himself and the Haitian people. He had a favorable report from the Supreme Court of Auditors and Administrative Disputes (CSCCA) and had anticipated that the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) would be justified enough and consider his situation, as he could never procure a 'certificat de décharge' from a defunct parliament. There are some more candidates like him who were also deprived of the right to contest the upcoming election and that includes the names like the former Prime Ministers, Jean-Max Bellerive and Laurent Lamothe, and former ministers, Duly Brutus, Danielle Saint-Lot, Jean-Rodolphe Joazile, Josefa Gauthier, Thierry Mayard-Paul, and others.
