Hotel Montana in Petion-Ville

Around since 1946, the Hotel Montana, a long-time jewel in the crown that is the suburb of Petion-Ville, suffered major damage during the earthquake in 2010. Two to three hundred people went missing, some of whom were never recovered. After the destruction, the hotel donated the salvageable contents of its freezer to a restaurant for use in their impromptu soup kitchen. Reconstruction of the hotel began in April of 2011.

Hotel Montana, Petion-Ville

Here is a picture of Hotel Montana in the city of Petion-Ville, Haiti.

Hotel Montana was built in 1946 and considered at the time one of the best tourist resorts in the country. During the 2010 earthquake, the hotel was affected severely where the main building of the hotel collapsed. An estimated 200 guests were reported missing following the building collapse. Since 2011, management has been working on reconstruction with their bar, pool, restaurant and some rooms already in operation.

Here is a photo of Hotel Montana - Haiti Earthquake - January 12, 2010. The epicenter of the Haiti earthquake was located 16 miles from Port-au-Prince. One year later, about 500 refugee camps still existed in Port-au-prince. Rape and common crimes in refugee camps were common, where 230 such cases were reported in the first six month after the earthquake
