The Cine Theatre Triomphe has finally been made available to the public, marking the fact that the Haitian Capital now has an operating movie theater.

Haiti's Cine Theatre Triomphe now a World Class venue

President Michel Martelly along with Prime Minister Evans Paul launched the renovated Cine Theatre Triomphe (CTT) at a cost of $7 million USD. Senior government officials and the ministers of culture and tourism were also present at the ceremony.

Martelly credited the Council for Performing Arts for its work on the project. The CTT comprises three halls, outfitted with the latest in modern technology. Its total seating capacity is over 750.

The rehabilitation and modernization of the "Triumph" (earlier it was called Ciné Théâtre Triomphe ), in a construction of seismic building built, began in December 2012 with a cost of around US$7 million and it was first scheduled to reopen on February 2014. However, after a series of rescheduling, the work of renovation was completed and was awaiting for inauguration in December 2014. For several years there was no proper theater in Haiti. The renovated 'Triumph' includes three areas, two movie theaters and a place reserved for conferences. Its first room has a capacity of 450 seats and a scene that can support 50 performers at a time. The second room can accommodate 306 people. Both of them have been equipped with state of the art audio and video equipments. The theater also houses well furnished, all-inclusive dressing rooms. However, on December 18, while the renovated movie house was awaiting the official inauguration, some Aristide vandals came and smashed the place into an unusable state. This is an exhibit of Aristide's power politics and Lavalas welfare philosophy for people of Haiti!

The Movie theater 'Ciné théâtre Triomphe', acquired by the Bank of the Republic of Haiti (BRH) will reopen in may 18, 2015, after a complete rehabilitation work at a cost of US$7 million, including the cost of additional land purchased in the adjacent space. The Cine Triomphe was one of the major cinemas in Port-au-Prince. Since closing in 1988, it has been used as a warehouse until it was taken by the State in late 2008 and the rehabilitation started in December 2012. The théâtre Triomphe will finally be inaugurated for the Haitian moviegoers on May 18, 2015 after being postponed in August 2014, due to parking problems. The multiplex has been designed to accommodate state of the art performances for dance, theater, concert, film projections. Two rooms of the new theatre will accommodate 450 and 300 people and a stage that can accommodate at least fifty artists. A third room has been equipped to host conferences, meetings, seminars and forums. The first two rooms will have unique theater systems-- HD Digital, screen of 12m x 6.5m mounted on removable frames (first in Haiti); a professional digital audio system separate of cinema audio system and an automated lighting system.

Cine Institute celebrating success in film, art and technology in Haiti

Artists Institute in Haiti is the only free college for film, art and technology where 115 students receive full scholarships through private donations. The institute offers film study programs through Cine Institute, and most recently they have added an Audio Institute, a place where students can learn music production and audio engineering. The unique model of this institute started with tuition-free education and hands-on college-level training in a two-year program. The institute's employment division brings in outstanding employers like Google, Arcade Fire, Partners In Health and Donna Karan, etc, in search for talents, who provide real top quality jobs and experience for the students and alumni. Its faculty is made up of Haitian and international professionals who are extremely dedicated and passionate about creating a brighter future for Haiti.

Raoul Peck to direct the ambitious project "The Young Karl Marx". This is a movie tracing Marx and Engels' journey to complete Communist Manifesto

The Haitian filmmaker Raoul Peck is on board to direct "The Young Karl Marx,"-- a drama chronicling the period between 1830-1848, including Karl Marx's time in Paris before being expelled to Brussels, his turbulent youth and friendship with Friedrich Engels. The film, set against the backdrop of the 1848 rebellions, is an ambitious project which depicts the completion of Marks- Engel's Communist Manifesto that gave birth of the labor rights movement. The title characters will be played two German actors: August Diehl (famous for Night Train to Lisbon) as Karl Marx, and Alexander Fehling (well known for Inglorious Basterds) as Engels. The film is a joint production of Agat Films and Peck's own Velvet Film with supports of Artemis Prods in Belgium and Rohfilm in Germany. The script is co-authored by Peck himself and Pascal Bonitzer.

First-Time Haitian Director Jimmy Jean-Louis goes Nollywood

Haitian actor Jimmy Jean-Louis's first outing as a director is with his 55-minute documentary short, "Jimmy Goes to Nollywood". Nollywood is Nigeria's film industry that is second only to Bollywood in number of film productions each year.

Jimmy's camera crew follows him around as he visits film production centers like Ghana and Nigeria, revealing his experiences interacting with African actors and directors.

Louis's film features American black actor Isaiah Washington, and Leila Djansi, Kareem Kae Kazim, Majid Michel, Ayuko Babu, and O.C. Ukeje.

A revelation made by Raoul Peck in Fatal Assistance. A fraction of $9B pledged got to Haiti

Many have long said that the aid funds to Haiti have dried up, now comes news from one filmmaker, Raoul Peck, who delivered the documentary, "Fatal Assistance" recently, that the majority of the 9 billion dollars raised by celebrities such as Wyclef Jean, Beyonce, and Sean Penn, didn't even reach the country. In the film that opened in Harlem, New York, Peck made the claim saying that the plan for the pledged funds, to have come in from worldwide foundations, failed miserably. It has led the Maysles Documentary Center to call for a cessation of the current policies regarding aid to Haiti.

He began his career immediately after high school studies when he auditioned for a community theatre company and gave an award winning performance. While in college, he continued to book roles on television and films like, Third watch, New York Undercover, Law & Order, etc. After his college days, he took admission in the Lee Strausberg Theater Institute and his life took a turn with his selection in a short film named 'Five Deep Breaths". He played the lead role of Bannie, the film went on the official selection of many film festivals like, Cannes, IFP, Tribeca and Sundance and accumulated 16 awards. Presently, Jamie is a founder member of "Moving Mountain" that provides opportunity and trains, grooms and guides youths with talents in the creative arts.
