Bridge On Route 9 over Riviere Grise collapsed

Bridge On Route 9 over Riviere Grise collapsed

Here is a picture of the Bridge on Route 9 over Riviere Grise that collapsed in March, 2016.

On Friday, March 18, 2016, a bridge over Rivière Grise on Route 9, connecting Cité Soleil to the National #1, partially collapsed while a truck was passing carrying gravel over the bridge. It was a metal bridge, 62 meters long and 20 meters wide. Surprisingly, everyday, over hundred heavily loaded trucks pass over this bridge which was built to withstand a maximum load of twenty tons only! No casualty was reported. Signs of road diversions have been posted. This recent disaster is an example of poor quality craftsmanship and supervision and that indicates how the public money in Haiti is managed. A primary investigation suggests that the possible cause of the collapse could be the stolen bolts of the bridge which were found missing.

Fonds-Verrettes and its devastating floods

Fonds-Verrettes and its devastating floods

I had an opportunity this February to tour Fonds-Verrettes and was able to see the great work that Plant with Purpose has been able to do for the community. Plant with Purpose began its mission in Fonds Verrettes in 2004 a time when the area experienced devastating floods that saw over 4,000 people die in both Haiti and Dominican republic along the border. For the three days I spend there I and the visiting partners were able to witness the transformation that Plant with Purpose has brought to the region through development programs. The program has empowered Haitian powers enormously and there has been Environmental, Economic and Spiritual transformation in the area. Our visitors had time to relate with local farmers and our regional Plant with Purpose staff.
