Vodou Flag

Ridge Art, an online art gallery that operates from 1123 S. Ridgeland Avenue Oak Park, IL 60304, prides itself on having a singularly large collection of Haitian art pieces known as Vodou flags throughout the United States. The company was founded in 1997 after a life-long collector of antiques and art, Laurie Beasley, visited Haiti and had her life changed by the art and culture. Today, the Ridge Art online gallery is a success throughout the US and abroad. They used to stock art from all over the world, having a collection of rare and unusual pieces, but have recently begun turning over to Haitian art only.

Here is a picture of Haiti Voodoo Flag, the focal point before the possession takes place.

Haitian Vodou flags are meant to shine and dazzle, and they do so mainly with the aid of the bright colors, beads and sequins used in their production. According to museum curator Nezka Pfeifer, the flags have this property mainly to facilitate meditation that allows possession to occur.

Despite their place now on walls primarily for their aesthetic beauty, the true purpose of these flags revolved around Vodou rituals. All the images and symbols are used, blended together to create a hypnotic, glistening mesmeric visage.
