A disaster can be classified as an event that results in extreme loss as well as misfortune. While each part of the world suffers from its own set of disasters, naturally occurring and otherwise, Haiti seems one country unequally plagued by a series of disastrous events since at least the 1500's. From tropical storms that caused landslides due to disastrous levels of rainfall, to hurricanes, cyclones and earthquakes, Haiti has been steadily and perpetually plagued by the sort of disasters that claim millions of lives and billions of dollars.
