Marc-Elie Nelson, Minister of the Ministry of Haitians Living Abroad (MHAVE)

A new minister for the Ministry of Haitians Living Abroad (MHAVE) was ushered in recently by the current MHAVE Acting Minister, Pierre-Richard Casimir. In his role, Marc-Élie Nelson is expected to take up the mantle left by the former Minister, Joseph Leprince Augustin. At the ceremony, various officials from the Haitian government were witness to Mr. Nelson's ascent to the post, including the Political Advisor to Haitian President, Michel Martelly. Following the appointment, members of the Grand Rally for the Evolution of Haiti (GREH) proclaimed that his new appointment hadn't been sanctioned by the organization, of which Mr. Nelson was President.

Haitian Artist Romel Jean Pierre

Leaving his lifelong dream of being a politician behind, Port-au-Prince artist Romel Jean Pierre took his first steps into the art world after witnessing an art show organized by members of the Atis-Rezistans. He would later join the division of the Atis-Rezistans for the young, Timoun-Rezistans, where he developed and honed his skills.

To date, Romel Jean Pierre has created a video-graphic media piece entitled Tele Ghetto Haiti, had showings at ENARTS as part of the Transcultural Contemporary Arts Forum, at Delmas City Hall, for April's Europe Week, and in Quinzaine of the Francophones.

Jean Jean Roosevelt Nabs Gold Medal at La Francophonie Games

Haiti has been bestowed with a very great honor. Its native son, Jean Jean Roosevelt, won the Gold Medal at the seventh Games of La Francophonie, outperforming 18 other competitors in the song competition

Josette Darguste, Minster of Culture, thanked the competition judges for choosing Haiti's representative for the special recognition.

President Martelly told the media Roosevelt's triumph in Nice, France, came about through his belief in his own talent.

Disabled Soccer Player in Haiti

Signalling an outlook of hope after the devastation caused by the 2010 earthquake, perhaps no group has come further than the soccer team, Zaryen, made up of all-amputee players, a first for Haiti. Showing signs of their success, the team scheduled their first ever tour to the United States, where they will visit New York and Washington D.C., hosting clinics and having matches, demonstrating their skill, perseverance and innovative use of prosthetics.

Haitian Artist Philippe Dodard

No stranger to having his works on display in exhibitions throughout Europe, North and South America, Haitian born painter, sculptor, advertising illustrator and graphic artist, Phillippe Dodard has created pieces using materials as varying as iron, jewels and paint on canvas. His early years saw him learning the trade at the Junior Seminary of ST. Martial's College, and he would go on to receive scholarships and opportunities for tours on which he gave speeches. Throughout his schooling, he was a student alongside Patrick Vilaire, Jean-Claude Garoute and Frido Casimir.

Jean Monestime celebrated the unveiling of Haiti: Leaving a Legacy

On July 25 2013, officials from Miami-Dade Aviation Department (MDAD) and the Miami-Dade County Commissioner Jean Monestime celebrated the inauguration of Haiti: Leaving a Legacy, a distinctive pool of high-design Haitian handicrafts now on exhibition at the South Terminal of MIA. The nine artists included in the show were part of the Urban Zen Haiti Artisan Project that spurs economic development in Haiti by increasing the availability of the country's artwork in the global market. The exhibition, on display through December at South Terminal Gallery of MIA, is collaboration between the Haitian Cultural Arts Alliance, MDAD's Fine Arts & Cultural Affairs Division, and American fashion designer Donna Karan. Pascale Marra, Cultural Attaché from the Consulate General of Haiti in Miami, was also in attendance for the inauguration.

Naval base in the city of Les Cayes

Naval base in the city of Les Cayes

A new naval base located in Les Cayes was officially launched in Haiti. This project is funded by the government of Canada and aims at intercepting drug traffickers. The prime Minister of Haiti indicated that the base scope will improve security in the southern region of the country. Earlier this year, the US State Department gave a report claiming that Haiti is still a point of transition for marijuana from Jamaica and cocaine from South America.

Justin Viard was Born on May 27, 1971 at Port-au-Prince, Haiti. He was admitted to the Bar in 2002. His main practise area is civil law. He studied at Haiti State University where he graduated with a Law degree and was licensed in law in 2000. He also obtained his Management degree and was licensed in management in 2001. He also has a third cycle diploma in Bank and financial system, CEFEB/IAE Paris I, Panthéon-Sorbonne, 2002 (France). He worked as the North Regional Director of PROMOBANK from the year 2003-2005. He has been a Member of the Bar association of Port-au-Prince since 2000. His main languages include French, and English. The practice areas include Civil Law, Corporate Law, Commercial Law, Banking Law, International Business Law, Business Law, and International Law.
