American Airlines first Flight to Haiti

Just over 40 years ago, American Airlines made its first flight into Port-au-Prince, Haiti. That was the 2nd of March, 1971, and since then, the airline and American Eagle continue to fly to Haiti. They currently employ about 140 people based in Haiti, and consider the country one of their international hometowns. The first American Airlines flight to Haiti was on a Boeing 707 which left from JFK International Airport in New York, bound for the nation's capital.

Falcon Air - Haiti Aviation Wet Lease

Haiti Aviation, with its base at the Port-au-Prince Toussaint Louverture International Airport in Haiti, operates using a wet lease of a MD-83 from Falcon Air Express. Officials said the intention of the airline is to bring tourists back to Haiti, a move which is in tandem with the Tourism Ministry's efforts to organize tour packages with various operators. They had their first flight on the 19th of July, 2013.

Haiti Aviation Encourages Diaspora to Fly to Island

Haiti is experiencing a renaissance in air travel. Not since 1995 has Haiti had an airline; but a new airline, Haiti Aviation, has started service. Its first flight was from Miami to Port-au-Prince. And a Canadian route began at the end of 2012, with more routes to come.

Private investors have made this addition to Haiti's tourism infrastructure possible. Tourism Minister Villedrouin says making travel packages affordable will encourage the Diaspora to fly to Haiti more often.

As the FSA welcomes the first ever Haitian airline into its fold of over 1000 members, Haiti celebrates its induction into the field with Sunrise Airways. A Port-au-Prince based startup, Sunrise Airways' acceptance into the Flight Safety Foundation, gives validation to the new direction of professionalism and entrepreneurship the country is leaning towards. The airline intends to connect the Western Caribbean, offering routes from Turks and Caicos, Jamaica etc. According to the president of the airline, it is a step towards the future that is significant, and one all Haitians should be proud of.

American Airlines - Haiti, Safety Record

So far, American Airlines has maintained a good safety record traveling form Port-au-Prince to Miami, Fort-Lauderdale or New York. Only one major incident has been recorded. November 20, 2000: American Airlines Flight 1291from Miami to Port-au-Prince. A passenger died when a pressurized cabin door opened during an emergency evacuation at Miami International Airport.

Sunrise Airways and Tourism in Cap Haitien Haiti

Sunrise Airways has submitted an application to ferry passengers between Providenciales and Cap Haitien International Airports. The airline intends to use for its flights Jetstream 19-passenger seat turbine-engine airliner.

If no objections are made to the application, it will proceed through the review process and sign-offs more quickly. Sunrise Airways wants to provide six flights a week between Providenciales and Cap Haitien International Airport from Monday through Saturday.

This airport is in Cap-Haitian is considered to be the second largest airport in Haiti after Toussaint L'Ouverture Airport in Port-au-Prince.

JetBlue Airways flights from  Fort Lauderdale and JFK to Port-au-Prince

JetBlue Airways is beginning non-stop service to Haiti from two U.S. international airports in December 2013.

The services will be From Fort Lauderdale and JFK to Port-au-Prince daily flights. Fort Lauderdale will make two non-stop flights daily to Port-au-Prince an JFK will fly a once-daily non-stop schedule. The flight from JFK will be an Airbus A320, and a 100-passenger Embraer will leave from Fort Lauderdale.

Following the announcement of the 2010 Haiti election results, American Airlines announced the suspension of their daily flights to Port-au-Prince, Haiti for two days. Many other airlines have taken similar actions.
