More than 13 million tons of bauxite exploited from Miragoane
From 1957 to 1982, Reynolds Haitian Mines Metals Inc. obtained an exclusive monopoly on bauxite and a concession to mine near Miragoâne
The company used the port of Miragoane on a regular basis as the region was a major source of bauxite which was mined inland between the 1960s and 1980s.
During that period, Reynolds Haitian Mines Metals Inc. was exploiting bauxite from Miragoane at an annual rate of 600,000 tons. A total of 13.3 million tons of bauxite was sent up to Corpus Christi, Texas.
