Gérard Pierre-Charles was born on December 18, 1935 in the historic city of, Jacmel and passed away on October 11, 2004, in Cuba
Pierre-Charles was an economist, author. He was a Haitian politician and former leader of the Unified Party of Haitian Communists. He later became a supporter of the politic of Jean-Bertrand Aristide. His activism dated back a long time. Gérard Pierre-Charles was one of the founders of an underground Marxist party which took birth in 1959. During the dictatorship of Francois "Papa Doc" Duvalier, he was forced to go into exile in Mexico where he spent 26 years. He studied Economics and became a teacher and finally returned to Haiti in 1986.
