As major crime increases, authorities from Haiti and the United States agreed to cooperate in fighting crime. For the past year, violent crimes such as drug trafficking, kidnapping and organized crime have increased. From May 2012 to May 2013, a total of 72 kidnappings were recorded by Haitian authorities, some of which ended fatally, and more than 1,000 homicides.
