This delicious drink, "Haitian Libation" was made famous by American President Franklin D. Roosevelt. In this picture, you could see him enjoying his favorite cocktail.

The only three terms US president, Franklin D. Roosevelt is considered to be one of the most productive presidents in the history of the United States. He took the country through World War II, managed to pull the country out of the great depression and is known for his signature New Deal.

Usually Roosevelt made his "Haitian Libation" with dark Haitian rum, mixed with orange juice, brown sugar, and egg white.

Ramblers Holidays add Haiti to its range of destinations

As Haiti political environment has become more uncertain , the efforts made in the tourism industry continue to bear fruits. Ramblers Holidays that has been specializing in guided walking holidays for over 60 years, has become the latest operator to add Haiti to its range of destinations.

Adding the island of Hispaniola to its itinerary of walking tours, the company Ramblers Worldwide Holidays has broadened the scope of Haiti's tourism pull, packaging the rolling hills and dippings, lush, green valleys as a veritable jackpot to its clientele. One of only the latest in a line of operators who have eagerly added Haiti to their list of destinations, Ramblers plans to start selling the Hispaniola leg of their tour package in April 2015. Already other tours such as Exodus have made their virgin tours here, prompting Jean-Marc Flambert, PR and marketing consultant for Haiti, to say the country is moving along well.

Dominican Military is prepared to enter Haiti and rescue Dominicans

According to the Dominican Military, they were prepared to enter Haiti and rescue their citizens and any other diplmats if requested. This announcement was made on Wednesday by Border Security Commander Guerrero Clase after learning that Presodent Michel Martelly is going to rule Haiti by decree

The Dominican Commander esetimated that there is a total of 17,000 Dominicans currently living in Haiti. He further stated that they always have an Evacuation Plan for Haiti which is based on intelligence reports shared by various agencies

Operation shield with over 22,000 Dominican troops along border

On the second day of the new year, Dominican Republic launched their shield operation, with over 22,000 troops aimed at bottlenecking and stopping the illegal migration of Haitians across the extremely porous border of the two countries. Working in rotation, the troop work assisted by over 150 CCTV cameras, set up at vantage points to locate those trying illegally to cross into the Republic. The border monitors known as CESFRONT (Cuerpo Especializado de Seguridad Fronteriza Terrestre), since the start of the year, have returned some 25,000 people to Haiti.

A new way to fight sexually transmitted diseases in Haiti such as HIV Aids. The introduction of newborn male circumcision.

One would think any procedure that had the promised potential to reduce the risk of HIV/AIDS by up to 60 percent would be wholeheartedly adopted by the government of Haiti. First Lady Sophia Martelly did, and thanks to the efforts of the man who convinced her, an infectious diseases physician from UCLA, Jeffrey Klausner, some Haitian doctors have been trained in the practice that had been largely left behind in the country. With a team he trained to impart the knowledge of the procedure, Klausner spearheaded the setting up of a surgical facility in the capital aimed at offering contraceptive and protective solutions.

Bronze Statue of Jean-Baptiste Pointe DuSable in Chicago hit by vandalism

Here is a picture of the statue for Haitian born Jean-Baptiste Pointe DuSable as it was recently the subject of vandalism. It was marked by black paint likely to prove a point on this Martin Luther King anniversary. The paint was successfully removed without any permanent damage

The Haitian born DuSable is credited for actually creating this major city of Chicago by opening Chicago's first trading post and settlement in the 1770s

A bust of Chicago's founder, born in ST. Marc, Haiti, was set upon by vandals during the anniversary of Martin Luther King. the statue is of Jean-Baptiste Point DuSable, who opened a trading post, the first in the city, driving people to the unsettled area in the 1770's. While the damage wasn't permanent, the defacing of the statue, in these racially sensitive times, has some thinking the prank had dire connotations, especially since it happened around Martin Luther King Day. The black paint, sprayed around the eyes of the statue, was removed with no permanent damage done to the bust.

Prime Minister Paul Meets with U.S. State Department regarding Upcoming Elections

Prime Minister Paul took a meeting with U.S. State Department Special Coordinator for Haiti, Thomas Adams. The meeting agenda included elections preparation, political party funding, adjustments to the present budget, government corruption, and anti-Martelly protests.

Paul emphasized the government's vow to hold fair, honest, and democratic elections. He added the government would finance political parties for inclusion in them. Addressing demonstrations he said government would honor individual freedoms and the right to peaceful assembly.

The National Police of Haiti graduated its 125th class of 118 police agents in January. President Martelly, Prime Minister Evans Paul, and senior government officials attended the promotion ceremony. Also present were Director General of the HNP, Godson Orelus, and Justice Minister Pierre-Richard Casmir.

Paul spoke to the agents about their role to maintain peace, defend the Constitution, promote rule of law, and establish a secure environment to hold fair, free, and democratic elections.

Laferriere Sculpture latest Honor for Haitian-Canadian Writer

Haitian-Canadian novelist Dany Laferriere's likeness is being transformed into a sculpture piece for the Gavin Museum of Montreal to be installed in 2016.

Laferriere writes in French and published his first novel in 1985 "How to Make Love to a Negro without Getting Tired".

In 2013 he became a member of the Academie Francaise, and in 2014 was honored with the International Literature Award for the novel "The Return".

Some of the Haitian Diaspora amassed in front of the Clinton Foundation offices in Harlem to protest $10 billion in recovery funds was misspent on Haiti's reconstruction. They said the bulk of the money was given to non-Haitian firms. They targeted CF because it spearheaded the recovery efforts.

One protestor asserted earthquake survivors are living in tent cities ". . . while bill Clinton and his cronies . . . waste this money."

French man Fritz-Joly Joachin with links to Paris attackers has Haitian root

The 29 year old Fritz-Joly Joachin is a suspect in the Paris attackers. He was arrested in Bulgaria. Fritz-Joly Joachin is a French citizen with Haitian origin. he is converted Muslim. Authorities traced him as having several contacts with one of the two brothers (Cherif Kouachi) before traveling to Turkey on September 30

French Citizen in Police Custody knew Charlie Hebdo Attacker

Bulgarian police arrested Fritz-Joly Joachin, alleging he was involved in a terrorist organization. They discovered he had been in contact with Cherif Kouachi, one of the brothers who slew 12 people at Charlie Hebdo in Paris.

Joachin's wife reported to French authorities Joachin had kidnapped their son. She said Joachin was an Islam convert, radicalized two years ago.

Joachin insisted he was not a terrorist and had nothing to with Kouachi's assault on French citizens.
