The former Special Representative of the Organization of American States (OAS) in Haiti, Ricardo Seitenfus made the news once again by stating that the presence of United Nations in Haiti is illegal. MINUSTAH is operating in Haiti illegally.

Recently at a round table conference on Haitian election, Ricardo Seitenfus, the Brazilian professor and the former Special Representative of the Organization of American States (OAS) in Haiti has said that the existence of the United Nation in Haiti is illegal, because the presence of MINUSTAH in the country contravenes the Haitian constitution and some treaties signed by the country. And thus, the immunities that the UN enjoys, is illegal too. Earlier, professor Seitenfus had criticized the role played by MINUSTAH and Haitian friends groups in the matter of resolving political crises in Haiti. Nearly $8.6 billion have been spent on the UN mission's operation in the country, but unfortunately, different international communities, particularly MINUSTAH are persistently repeating the same mistake.

Presentation of queens and kings of Carnival for the National Carnival 2015, Nou tout se Ayiti.

On Sunday, 15 February, President Martelly in the presence of several important ministers and government dignitaries inaugurated the National Carnival 2015 on the theme "Nou tout se Ayiti" (or "We are Haitians") at the National Palace. Minister Raton who is the Minister of Culture and also the Honorary President of the Carnival, took the opportunity to congratulate the Head of the State for his dedication and determination in successfully organizing the biggest cultural event of the country. The President reciprocated his thankfulness to the organizers and revelers for cultivating solidarity and exposing the talents of Haitian artisans. A successful, organized Carnival is helpful in attracting tourists and investment in the country.

Here is another picture of excellence in Haiti. Guy Etienne who is a teacher at the College Catts Pressoir of Port-au-Prince, has been selected one of 10 finalists for the award for the best teacher in the world in 2015

Varkey Gems Foundation, a global education foundation, is set to award a $1 million prize to the best teacher in the world. Haitian teacher Guy Etienne is one of 10 finalists in the 2015 competition.

Etienne will be judged by a 67-member jury on three major criteria: how he inspires the minds of his students; how he makes contributions within his community, and how he motivates students to pursue teaching as a profession.

Here are some of the pictures of Haitian singer Daniel Darinu, known as "Fantom" as he is recovering in Miami from burns sustained at the Kaaval accident in February, 2015.

Barikad Crew's vocalist Fantom was electrocuted by a low-hanging power line during Carnival. Hit in the face, he passed out as a blinding light flashed in the air. He is being treated for burns in South Florida, crediting God for saving his life. He is making a good recovery and will be back in Haiti for the release of his latest CD.

The electrocution of Fantom caused a stampede, and 17 victims lost their lives.

The future of Haiti relies among Haitians and once the Haitian government is able to provide a stable environment, Haitian businesses will take off for good. An example of that is with the young Haitian investor Josué Bazile who sees an opportunity in the city of Pestel where transportation has been a problem for the residents for a long time. He has decided to bring a solution to the problem.

Grand Anse Pestel citizens lack affordable and regular transit service to Les Cayes and Jeremie. Pestel native Josue Bazile began Agrotrans, a daily service, providing transit in a Toyota all-terrain vehicle.

Bazile was not funded by the government, and says people should not expect government help; instead they should take the initiative themselves to find workable solutions.

The transit vehicle will do double duty as an ambulance when emergencies arise, since Pestel has no such emergency service.

Haiti and the Dominican Republic are expected to become free from malaria by 2020 or exactly in 5 years.

A joint effort by the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) has made it their task to eradicate all indigenous cases of malaria in Hispaniola, the island that is shared by Haiti and Dominican Republic. The project aims to do this by 2020, and is funded to the tune of just under $30 million US from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. According to PAHO, in 2013, there were 20,000 confirmed cases of malaria on the island. Hispaniola is the only Caribbean island still battling malaria, which is endemic there.

Here is a picture where Capital Coach Line bus became a victime of insecurity in Haiti. It was attacked and burned in Petit-Goâve

A vicious attack on a bus within the Capital Coach Line has left the 12-year-old company with up to $300,000 in damages. The attack took place on Monday, February 2, 2015 when an unidentified group of people attacked the Mercedes passenger bus that was in Petit-Goâve completing a run with four passengers on board. The bus was intercepted in the 5:00 pm daylight, the driver robbed, and the bus burned at the Andrédicette crossroad on National Road #2.

Police have weighed in that the attack could have been brought on by the fact that the bus driver was a Dominican Republic national who has worked in Haiti for the last year. It doesn't take a big stretch of the imagination, what with the recent killing of Haitian nationals in the Dominican Republic and the burning of the Haitian flag there, that this could have been the motive. However, the company itself is not convinced that this is so.

Since their founding in 2003 as the first bus company in the country, the Capital Coach Line, S.A. has built a significant name for itself offering a twice daily route between destinations like Port-au-Prince and Les Cayes, not to mention being the industry leader. Representatives of the company believe the attack wasn't on the driver, but on them, orchestrated by one of their many competitors. The incident not only cost the company money, but endangered the lives of the four passengers on board, as well as the driver, all of whom had to be rescued by the police from the burning vehicle.

A new Marriott in the heart of Port-au-Prince. Here is an important milestone in Haiti, the opening of the Marriott Port-au-Prince.

With the help of the Clinton Foundation worked closely with Marriott and Digicel Group, this new hotel will likely attract more foreign direct investment to Haiti

Like a shiny, white beacon to match the high expectations being placed on its shoulders, the 11-story Marriott Hotel in Port-au-Prince, newly opened for business as of the 25th of February, stands out for its newness, simplistic outer design and its ability to reflect the sunlight. While Haiti on a whole and its tourism sector in particular have been benefitting from a tremendous influx of support from local investments and help from around the world, leading to the erection of many new hotels, the implementation of a hibiscus rating system, and a general overhaul of many popular tourist sites with the addition of new ones, it is this hotel which garnered much attention, compelling the presence of Haiti's President Michel Martelly, and former U.S. President Bill Clinton to its grand opening.

Here is a picture of Soni Mustivar who just signed with Sporting Kansas City. Mustivar had played for the Haiti men's national team six times in the past.

Soni Mustivar, a midfielder from Haiti, will be joining Sporting Kansas City as it leaves for the second half of the training camp that takes place in Tucson, Arizona before the start of the season. The football player was signed pending his receiving a P-1 Visa and an international transfer certificate in order to participate. His performance in six Haiti men's national team appearances has made his recruitment possible, and the coach of Sporting KC, Peter Vermes, has said he is sure to be an asset to them once he's learned their mode of playing.

Haiti will never stop surprising you and the reinstatement of Mr. Simon Dieuseul Desras as Senator of the Republic of Haiti is just another one.

The Haitian Senator was dismissed in January 2015 with nine other senators when their term expired. However on February 10, a Haitian court overturned his dismissal

He is expected to return to his function as President of the Senate immediately

Upon being reinstated to the post of Senate President, Senator Simon Dieuseul Desras took the time to comment on certain happenings in the country, which the senate, though now with 11 members, will be powerless to change other than through voicing its opinion. In that vein, Senator Desras started talking about the multiple strikes and demonstrations taking place across the country. There is the protesting of students of agronomy at the Ministry of Agriculture, the issue of the new gas and diesel prices, and the continued delay in elections.
