Pointe-à-Raquette, La Gonave
Pointe-à-Raquette, site of a recent government meeting, can be found in the Ouest Department of Haiti in the La Gonâve Arrondissement. The municipality, whose name in Creole is Pwentarakèt, is one of the island of La Gonave's two towns. At last count, the population in the municipality totaled just over 22,000, with just about a thousand more men than women. This number amounts to just less than 30% of the population on the island. Those within the town number just under 4,000.

Here is a picture of the new Police in Haiti. Several police Officers were detected horse back riding. This is in the objective to provide better security to the population.
For the past several years, Haiti National Police has has contributed tremendously in the improvement of security in Haiti.
With this new approach, having some Police officers policing some neighborhoods on Horse will further improve security
President Michel Martelly in Paris, France
Here is a picture of the Haitian President Michel Martelly in Paris. The President stopped in France on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 in his way to his participation in the induction ceremony of Cardinal Chibly Langlois in St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. He will meet French President Francois Holland. President Martelly will also visit Belgium and finally meet with Pope Francis.

The ascension of Bishop Chibly Langlois from Haiti to the Cardinal of the Catholic Church is considered by many as a disapproval of the service of Dominican Cardinal Nicolás de Jesús López Rodríguez by Vatican. As a successor to Cardinal Antonio Beras Octavio Rojas, López Rodríguez was appointed as the Cardinal for the entire Quisqueya on July 28, 1991. Cardinal Nicolás Rodríguez has become infamous for his racist remark in favor of resolution 168/13 that stripped away the most basic constitutional rights of nearly 210,000 innocent undocumented Dominicans of which majority are Haitian. Many countries, such as United States, Venezuela, Cuba and CARICOM member states has openly expressed their displeasure against his advocacy for resolution 168/13.
Who is Bishop Chibly Langlois, Haiti New Cardinal?
The new Cardinal from Haiti, Bishop Chibly Langlois of Les Cayes is a 55 year old tireless man who was born in a poor family from La Valle in southeast Haiti. He never forgot his impoverished childhood and always has maintained a close contact with the most vulnerable, distressed ordinary people even in most difficult circumstances. His ascension as the Cardinal is regarded by many as the recognition of his great service to the destitute victims of earthquake and a mark of trust to someone who can lead the work of Vatican in a new direction. Bishop Chibly Langlois is the president of the Haitian bishops' conference, youngest among the 19 new cardinals who will be formally elevated in consistory on February 22nd and the only non-archbishop in the group.
Zombies a Scientific Reality Only
Part of Haitian Voodoo is the belief in Zombies. Clairvius Narcisse is an example of the Zombie myth. A priest injected Narcisse with a hallucinogen, deadening his brain function. He became a victim of forced labor until the priest died. Now clear-minded, he returned home to recount his experience. Zombie-ism is used as a tool to force victims into degrading conditions. It creates fear and dread in those, who do not understand psychotropic drugs, and their ability to alter perceptual capacity.
Anse-a-Galets Airport Operates Charter Flights in La Gonave
Anse-a-Galets Island is a metro area under the La Gonave Arrondissement. The biggest city on Haiti in the Ouest Department, it numbers 52,662 residents, and sits west-northwest of Port-au-Prince, part of the Gulf of Gonave. It operates the Anse-a-Galets Airport in La Gonave, running charter flights from Port-au-Prince and contains an unpaved airstrip that is 2,400 feet in length.
Anse-a-Galets cholera clinic serves between one to three patients per day, most of whom have had non-life-threatening symptoms.
The Haiti Massacre of 1804
The Haitian, Perfect Ship, and Marlborough Ship Massacres were attempts to annihilate the mulatto elite and free African slaves. They occurred in 1804, 1758, and in 1752 respectively.
The 1865 Jamaican Morant Bay and The Malagasy Uprisings were fought against British and French oppressors. Morant Bay leader Paul Bogle and his comrades torched the Court House, taking over the city. Malagasy Black Nationalist Freedom Fighters brought down French Prime Minister Paul Ramadier.
Edwidge Danticat, Writer of the Haitian Immigrant Experience
Author Edwidge Danticat's new novel Claire of the Sea Light is Wilmette Library's selection for its "One Book, Everybody Reads" program.
The novel tells the story of a young Haitian girl, orphaned by her father so she will be better taken care of. It traces Claire's experiences back to the fishing hamlet where she once lived.
Danticat has been much honored, recipient of critics' awards, fellowship grants, literary recognition, medals of honor, and achievement awards.
