Sean Penn posted on Instagram from Haiti

Hollywood actor and supporter of Haiti, Sean Penn is hoping to capitalize on the popularity of Instagram, an internet photo and video sharing phenomenon that, following its start in October of 2010, racked up 100 million photographs by July of 2011. His hope is to bevy up new interest in his J/P Haiti Relief Organization. The effort, which had its start almost immediately after the 2010 earthquake, has re-housed a majority of those who lost their homes.

Madonna in Haiti with her son Rocco

Happy with the result of his efforts to get United States' pop star Madonna on to Haitian shores, Sean Penn shared the news recently that she was in the embattled Caribbean country for a visit with her son, Rocco. Using her time here as a vehicle to drive awareness to the plight faced by those Haitians still suffering the effects of the earthquake that devastated the country in 2010, Madonna has already begun an Instagram campaign that should raise much awareness.

Henry Christophe Citadelle Artillery Museum Ready for Tourist Season

Minister of Culture, Josette Darguste, and Maryse Noel, Ministry of Tourism Director General, helped launch the Citadelle Artillery Museum in November 2013.

The museum showcases an impressive collection of 18th century heavy artillery, cast in iron and bronze, and captured by the Haitian military during invasions by France, Spain, England, and Italy.

The Institute for the Protection of National Heritage funded the project. Its Director General, Monique Rosann, was also in attendance.

Coderre Appoints Frantz Benjamin First Montréal Council President

Frantz Benjamin has been named the first Haitian-American Montréal Municipal Council President.

Benjamin also serves on many other boards and committees including Culture, Heritage, and Sports Commission; Pointe de l'Île School Board Executive Committee; and as Intercultural Montréal Council President.

Benjamin was a loyal ally of ex-mayor Gérald Tremblay and quit the Union Montréal party when they brought corruption charges against Tremblay. When new mayor Coderre took office Benjamin joined Coderre's party.

Theft of Earthquake Photos Costs AFP $1.22 Million in Damages

Haitian photographer Daniel Morel won a $1.22 million dollar award from Agence France-Presse (AFP) for its copyright infringement of Morel's photos of the 2010 earthquake.

Trial jurors decided AFP was deliberate in its infringement, and awarded Morel an additional $20,000 for AFP's breach of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

The photos were taken from Morel's TwitPic account, and distributed through Getty Images publishing channels. AFP tried to purchase the photographs but Morel said no and sued.

Where is the love between Haitians and Dominicans

Due to the history of two nations that share one island and are called to leave together, there have been little in that area. Whether we like it or not, Haiti and the Dominican Republic are two countries that share the same island. Unfortunately, the history between them has been one with a lot of up and down.

Lately it has come to the point where both countries are likely to pay a big price economically due to lack of cooperation and vision.

Following the recent action from the Dominican Court to remove the citizenship from many Dominicans with Haitian links, many international organizations have expressed their objections.

Use of magicJack, Skype, not good for haitian government

If the Haitian government could have his way, he would ban the use of new technologies such as Skype and MagicJack in Haiti. These new technologies represent a problem for them as the government had big plan to collect fee on long distance phone calls.

The Director of the National Council of Telecommunications (Conatel), came out to say it that the impact of internet calls with devices such as magicJack, Skype in Haiti is not positive for the government.

Mountain bike stage racing

Mountain Bike Ayiti will take place for a second year in January of 2014. Following the success of its first staging earlier this year, promoters hope to capitalize on the momentum and host a fun, scenic tour of Haiti's mountains and some of the coast on two wheels. Filming of the event will be undertaken by an experienced team of professionals in the industry and highlights of the race, including results, will be aired on local networks with coverage by adventure and cycling media from around the world.
