Some Facts about Haitian Creole
The two Official languages of Haiti are: French, spoken by a small group and Creole spoken by the entire population.
It has been one of Haiti's official languages since 1987 and is the first language of about 95 percent of Haitians, especially in rural areas.
Haitian Creole is a French-based vernacular language that developed in the late 17th and early 18th centuries.
Haitian Creole developed primarily on the sugarcane plantations of Haiti from contacts between French colonists and African slaves.
Haitian Creole is spoken by about twelve million people, which includes the entire population of Haiti and close to four million people of Haitian descent residing in the Bahamas, Belize, Canada, Cayman Islands, Cuba, Dominican Republic, France, French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Ivory Coast, Martinique, Puerto Rico, Trinidad and Tobago, the United States, and Venezuela.
View from Cotes de Fer
In the south-east department, with an area of just over 190 km square lies Côtes-de-Fer. Its 70,000 people population are extremely gracious, helpful and resourceful. Called the coast of beauty, Côtes-de-Fer relies greatly on fishing for its economy and the sustenance of the population. They trade with nearby towns and boroughs which include Bainet, Aquin & Miragoâne and Petit-Goâve. Its beauty includes hidden beaches, lush mountains and hospitable people. Not without accommodations for visiting tourists, the town is home to Coby Beach Resort which can host conferences for up to a hundred and offers horseback riding, water skiing, tennis and basketball.
Grann Do Beach, Cotes de fer
The residents of Côtes-de-Fer make their living by farming, fishing and making crafts. Their farm products include banana, petit mille, cassava, corn, potato, yam and peas, cachiment, grenadine, corossole, mango, sapodilla and papaya. They sell many of these goods at the local market to nearby towns and even import Sisal (pitre) to the international market. The area is famous for their fishing. Mostly seasonal, their fish varieties include lobsters and conch, of which the haul is large, used to feed the residents and also for commercial use.
Ecole nationale, Cotes-de-Fer, Haiti
Recently, the area of Côtes-de-Fer benefitted greatly from the patronage of the Canadian Government which saw to the inception of a brand new police station. The town's other new additions include a bridge over the Côtes-de-Fer river, food kits from the Ede Pèp program and agricultural implements such as over thirty water pumps needed to irrigate a thousand hectares. The aid came after attention was drawn to the area's needs.
Fritz Cineas, Ambassador to Dominican Republic
Haitian Ambassador to the Dominican Republic, Fritz N. Cineas has spoken against both countries for their lack of focus on the most important issues that stand between the two countries. Referring specifically to the exportation of Haitian cash-products such as peanut butter, rum and beer, which do well in other countries but are not allowed easy access into the Dominican Republic, Cineas called for the immigration and trade agreements between the two countries to be addressed in order to form a more symmetrical union.
American Airlines first Flight to Haiti
Just over 40 years ago, American Airlines made its first flight into Port-au-Prince, Haiti. That was the 2nd of March, 1971, and since then, the airline and American Eagle continue to fly to Haiti. They currently employ about 140 people based in Haiti, and consider the country one of their international hometowns. The first American Airlines flight to Haiti was on a Boeing 707 which left from JFK International Airport in New York, bound for the nation's capital.
Recommendation of Senate Commission of Inquiry - Death of Judge Jean Serge Joseph
Report of the Special Senate Committee, responsible for investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Judge Jean Serge Joseph. After hearing many personalities mentioned in this case, the Senate Commission of Inquiry concluded that all concerned including the President Michel Martelly, Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe, the Minister of Justice Jean-Renel Sanon are liars. The Commission is convinced that there was in fact a meeting which was held on July 11, 2013, at the Chambers of Garry Lissade.
Recommendation: "The Prime Minister and the Minister of Justice are charged and removed of their function" "Impeach the Head of State for crime of High Treason"
The introduction of Haiti Aviation
Response for the airline has been very positive. Most people express great pride in having it bear the name of the country. Even the two-hour delay didn't deter passengers, who expect such eventualities with airline companies. The virgin flight was offered at a discounted price, and expectations are high that this trend will continue, at least for a while, as the airline tries to get more passengers, build a customer base and inspire loyalty.
Transportation - Haitian Aviation
The Carnival des Fleurs inspired the addition of two flights by American Airlines into Port-au-Prince from Miami. Undertaken on Friday the 26th and Saturday the 27th of July, 2013, both flights helped to enhance the convenience for passengers wishing to travel from Miami to Port-au-Prince. Suddenly, the route without any flights had multiple, as newly inaugurated Haiti Aviation also took to the skies with its own flights linking both cities. The first flight from Miami landed at the Toussaint Louverture International Airport two hours behind the schedule, at nearly noon.
Haiti Aviation replacing Insel Air - Miami - Port-au-Prince
When, in early June, Insel Air ceased their flight operations which connected Miami to the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince, a huge gap was left in the market alongside the inconvenience suffered by travelers who were forced to find alternate, almost certainly more expensive methods to travel between both capital cities. When Haiti Aviation began its operation in July, armed with a new wet lease signed with Falcon Air Express, the route opened up once more.
