Me Mario Beauvoir has demanded that Judge Maximin be removed from Sherlson Sanon Case

Jean Sanon, Minister of Justice, is refusing to honor attorney Beauvoir's request that his client, Sherlson Sanon, be protected while in prison. Sherlson has had charges levied against him for drug trafficking.

During his confession, Sherlson said Senator Lambert mentored him in a life of crime as a youngster. Judge Maximin, in a pre-trial hearing, seemed biased against Sherlson, and attorney Sanon wants Maximin to recuse himself from the case.

National Contingency Plan has no Plan for Tropical Storm or Hurricane

National Contingency Plan has no Plan for Tropical Storm or Hurricane

As Hurricane is expected to bear down on Haiti, motivated the island's National Contingency Plan (NCP) to release information of what to expect when the storm landed. NCP offered no preparedness tips, but a litany of alarming predictions: the death rate will soar, rural migrations to urban areas will multiply, and disease will be endemic.

More than half a million nationalists are in danger; a 100,000 increase from 2012's forecast. The government is unable to provide adequate services for the ballooning populations.

Haiti Residents Indifferent to Hurricane Threat

Haiti Residents Indifferent to Hurricane Threat

As usually before a storm, Haiti and Dominican Republic (DR) authorities issued warnings to residents in lowland areas to vacate their homes and seek higher ground before Hurricane hits.

But residents in the DR and Haiti are unaffected by the warnings. For example, a Haitian street seller would not stop selling snow cones despite the existence of Hurricane.

A DR nationalist, Geovanny Batista, echoed the sentiments of many, claiming, "We're sure nothing is going to happen."

Me Mario Beauvoir - Avocat de Sherlson Sanon to file action

A raid by the Central Directorate of Judicial Police on a home in Tabarre netted $2 million USD in drugs. Croix-des-Bouquet Commissioner, Beauvoir, was at the scene, and has been the target of threatening phone calls.

Beauvoir indicated he would file an action against the undisclosed trafficker. He explained: to disclose the ringleader's identity would compromise the investigation.

Tabarre Mayor, Théodat, is said to be involved also and judicial authorities have forbidden him to leave Haiti.

Carnival of Flowers to Create Jobs

Carnival of Flowers to Create Jobs

Government of Haiti (GOH) is hosting the 2013 Carnival of Flowers (COF) in Port-au-Prince and other locales for three days.

Naysayers complain COF will not make a profit because vendors cheat the tax collector and out-of-state performers spend their money elsewhere.

GOH contends COF will create jobs and lift hopes of Haitians dashed by 2010's earthquake. GOH will subsidize COF at $1.6 million USD. Ministry of Culture says COF is an opportunity to display floral species that are part of Les Cayes Botanical Garden.

Year of the Environment Carnival of Flowers 2013 Theme

President Martelly wants to highlight Haiti's reforestation program, "Year of the Environment" by using the theme for 2013's Carnival of Flowers (COF). It will serve a dual function: to raise consciousness of ordinary citizens of how important greening Haiti is to its infrastructure, and connect it to nationalist pride Haitians feel during this celebration.

COF will display a myriad of floral species on its floats and costumes, to the delight of parade-goers.

2013 Carnival of Flowers Festivities

For the second time 40 years Haiti is holding its Carnival of Flowers (COF), a three-day celebration. The central events of COF will happen outside Port-au-Prince (PAP).

The reason for COF's displacement from PAP is many hundreds of survivors from 2010's earthquake still remain in tent cities in PAP. But President Martelly is allowing opening-day festivities to occur in PAP so those survivors may enjoy the colorful floats and costumes of the parade. The tent cities are slowly being dismantled.

Michel Martelly Says 1.2 Million Trees to be Planted in 24 Hours

President Michel Martelly has made a ridiculous claim 1.2 million saplings would be planted at seven locales throughout Haiti, in a single day.

Some news agencies believe Martelly has timed this ecological event to coincide with his two-year anniversary as ruler of Haiti.

The goal behind the tree planting is to move toward a five-percent canopy cover by 2016. Millions of trees are felled annually to use as cooking fuel among the very poor.
