In 2013, Dr. Florence Guillaume Duperval was awarded for her work. The Minister of Public Health and Population was named Havard Health Leader 2013 by the avard Kennedy School of Government.
United Nations and Cholera in Haiti
The United nations has decided not to take responsibility for the cholera outbreak in Haiti. Several independent studies have concluded that they are in fact responsible. In addition to that, the UN has claimed full diplomatic diplomatic immunity
Ban Ki-moon, rejected claim for compensation filed in 2011 on behalf of cholera victims in Haiti, as "not receivable" because of the United Nations' has diplomatic immunity.
Martelly visits Mirebalais Teaching Hospital
This week, Haitian president Michel Martelly went to Mirebalais to visit the Mirebalais Teaching Hospital. This hospital that is still in construction is one of the must modern hostitals in the Caribbean.
Mirebalais hospital was created with the help of a private and public partnership, is to be managed by Partners in Health and Zanmi Lasante. the Ministry of Public Health and Population in Haiti is also responsible.
Diabetes Type 2 As 15 Percent Of The Haitians Is Affected
The majority of Haitians who is affected by Diabetes is Type 2. Type 2 diabetes mellitus is characterized by insulin resistance which may be combined with relatively reduced insulin secretion. The defective responsiveness of body tissues to insulin is believed to involve the insulin receptor. In the early stage of type 2 diabetes, the predominant abnormality is reduced insulin sensitivity.
FHADIMAC, 15 Percent Of Haitians Over 50 Are Diabetic
The Haitian population has a health issue that needs to be addressed as it is getting worst. Fifteen percent of Haitians over the age of 50 is suffering from the disease of Diabetes, according to FHADIMAC.
Like many other diseases currently affecting the population, the government needs to bring awareness to that issue as well.
The eradication of lymphatic filariasis in Haiti by Jimmy Carter and U.S. Ambassador Kenneth Merten
The Haitian Ministry of Public Health and Population (MSPP), the former President Jimmy Carter and U.S. Ambassador to Haiti Kenneth Merten have decided to fight a disease that has affected many Haitians. They plan to eradication of lymphatic filariasis in Haiti. They are also putting a large sum of money behind this campaign as well.
$1.5 million will be spent into this campaign. The money will be used for medication and to pay the staff for the eradication of the lymphatic filariasis, also known as elephantiasis.
lymphatic filariasis is an infectious disease caused by some type of roundworms. Filariasis diseases are transmitted by blood sucking insects, such as flies, mosquitoes or copepod.
