The Haitian military was involved in numerous coups and some of the worst human rights abuses in the hemisphere.
On 15 October 1994, after the return of Jean-Bertrand Aristide from exile, he disbanded the Haitian army and established a civilian police force.
While Aristide was widely praised for disbanding the armed forces, many people in Haiti think there is a need to return with the Haitians Military to keep the peace and provide security in the country
