Fresh La Shakes Up the Establishment

Haitian singer, Fresh La, is a leading expositor of Raboday. Raboday appeared on the music scene following 2010's earthquake.

The new music deviates from classic Hip-Hop, which sings of life's materialistic pursuits. Instead Raboday tackles social issues holding Haiti back: government corruption, poverty, and education among them.

Although Fresh La is criticized by those whom he exposes, it doesn't prevent him from singing about reforms, which Haiti needs to move the country forward.

Jude Célestin Biography

Jude Célestin Biography

Social Media a Weapon against Celestin Defeat

Jude Celestin, in a run-off with Jovenel Moise, risks losing the presidency because of voter fraud, occurring on Election Day. In 2010 Celestin ran under INITE banner. He placed second in the first round, and Martelly third.

To sabotage Celestin, PHTK burned down INITE's headquarters, coercing INITE to abandon Celestin. Third-ranked Martelly overtook Mirlande Manigat to claim victory.

This year Celestin backers are using social media to avoid a repeat of 2010's disappointment.

Miami Police arrested Farah Juste at protest

Here is a picture of Haitian singer Farah Juste in a protest against recent election in Miami. She was arrested by Miami Police

Haitian-American protest singer and songwriter, Farah Juste, was arrested by Miami police while she took part in protesting the presidential election results in Haiti. The majority of Haitians believe the elections were rigged to put Jovenel Moise in first place. According to Provisional Electoral Council (CEP), Moise received 33% of the vote, but exit polls show just 6% of voters chose him. On a follow-up poll when the preliminary results were made public, the same sampling of voters said the elections were unfair (90%); whereas the exit polls showed 82% thought the elections were fair.

Juste, along with other protestors, showed up at a rally for Jovenel Moise, a presidential candidate running under the Parti Haitien Tet Kale banner. The rally happened at Miami's Little Haiti Cultural Arts Center. The police later let her go in spite of the fact the demonstrators she was with did not possess a protest permit.

The Haitian Diaspora in New York City

Government-backed, PHTK candidate, Jovenel Moise, is being paid out of the Haitian Treasury to travel to New York City (NYC) and Brooklyn. U.S. taxpayers are also paying his way. When Moise touched down at JFK Airport he was greeted by Haitian General Consul Representatives. But Haitian-Americans gave him the cold shoulder.

At Brooklyn's intimate meet-and-greets, Haitian-Americans protested his appearance, saying Moise was ". . . a thief and a fraud for participating in . . . an electoral coup d'etat." Back in Haiti many thousands of demonstrators rail nearly every day about what they perceive as fraudulent election results. Although a mere 6% of voters selected Moise, according to exit polls; the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) claimed he received 33% of the vote, placing him first. The 27% discrepancy is what has Haitians in an uproar. Their calm protestations turned violent when they came into contact with the opposition, who hurled rocks at them. One protestor was gunned down resulting in his death. Another was seriously wounded by a machete gash to his head.
