Moïse Jean-Charles on his Horse

Here is a picture of Haiti Presidential candidate Moïse Jean-Charles on his horse. It is likely that many of his transportation will be done by horse.

Former Senator Jean Charles Moïse is a contended man who already sees himself as the next Haitian President. He is confident of his victory in the upcoming presidential election from the Platform of the radical opposition "Petit Dessalin". He has challenged his strongest opponent President Martelly and has said that there is nobody in the government or in any international community who can pose a threat to our victory. The election on October 25 would be a simple matter of formality. He has promised that once he is in power, there will be no witch hunt, those guilty of financial crimes will face the consequences. In the upcoming Haitian election, three political parties have submitted a nomination for more than 220 candidates: Fusion of Social Democrats (FUSION) [12 Senate candidates, 86 for deputy], Organization of People in Struggle (OPL) [10 Senate candidates, 83 for deputy] and the Patriotic People's Movement Dessalinien (MOPOD) 6 candidates for the Senate and 30 for deputies

Paul Denis, the rejection of my candidacy on absence of décharge, "injustice"

Paul Denis, the rejection of my candidacy on absence of décharge,

Paul Denis has protested his exclusion in the electoral process. He called this an act of injustice on the part of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP).

Paul Denis, a candidate for the post of Senator of the Sud, while speaking on an interview with Bob-C on Radio Caraïbes on Monday morning, June 8, 2015 has said that the decision of the electoral council to reject his candidacy due to the lack of a certificate of discharge is an act of "injustice", unto himself and the Haitian people. He had a favorable report from the Supreme Court of Auditors and Administrative Disputes (CSCCA) and had anticipated that the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) would be justified enough and consider his situation, as he could never procure a 'certificat de décharge' from a defunct parliament. There are some more candidates like him who were also deprived of the right to contest the upcoming election and that includes the names like the former Prime Ministers, Jean-Max Bellerive and Laurent Lamothe, and former ministers, Duly Brutus, Danielle Saint-Lot, Jean-Rodolphe Joazile, Josefa Gauthier, Thierry Mayard-Paul, and others.

CEP to maintain electoral calendar of three cycles

CEP to maintain electoral calendar of three cycles

The CEP has decided to go against the advises of U.S. Special Adviser to Haiti at the State Department, Thomas Adams and organize three cycles for the up coming election. The electoral calendar will not be modified

Thomas Adams, the Special Adviser to the US State Department for Haiti believes if Haiti holds the upcoming election in two cycles instead of three, the country may save around $30 million, and moreover, it will give enough time to the Electoral Council to prepare properly for the forthcoming election. However, the Haitian Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) thinks otherwise. Recently, Pierre Louis Opont, the President of the CEP along with six other councilors, during a press conference has provided an update on the financial, technical and logistical aspects of the ensuing electoral process and they have reaffirmed the earlier announced election calendar. Me. Opont has said that the total cost of holding elections for three days is about US$62 million. So how a reduction by one cycle could save $30 million as per Thomas Adams's calculation?

Laurent Lamothe candidacy rejected due to discharge

Laurent Lamothe candidacy rejected due to discharge

The CEP ruled Lamothe lacked the required discharge document in order to run as a candidate in the next presidential election in Haiti

On June 3rd, the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) has announced its decision to bar the presidential candidacy of the former Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe on the ground that he lacked required discharge which he was required to submit under the electoral law to affirm that that he did not misused any government funds. However, the fact is that Lamothe could not provide that 'discharge' due to a defunct parliament and President Martelly has announced that he would not grant discharges for anyone by decree. Lamothe has always maintained that he should be allowed to run without a discharge by the CSCCA, because independent auditors have cleared him of financial mismanagement. The decision of CEP appears to be unfairly discriminatory because there are other candidates like Lamothe, who were never called for to submit any 'discharge' (for example, Thierry Mayard-Paul, Duly Brutus and Mario Andersol), but were allowed to proceed for the contest.

CEP excludes candidate Ultimo Compère for false information

It appears that former Haitian Senator Ultimo Compère was trying to pull a fast one on the electoral body. However, it did not fly. The CEP has excluded the candidate Ultimo Compère for submitting false information in registering his candidacy.

Ex-senator of Central Department, Ultimo Compere has been dismissed as a candidate for a senate seat by the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP). He is alleged to have given false information to the CEP. He has violated the Electoral Decree and article 209 of the Constitution.

Compere is scheduled to appear in court for his offenses. His removal has brought senate candidates down to 232 male contenders from Central Department.

Wilson Jeudy is expected to register shortly as a candidate once again for the Mary of Delmas

Recall that last Thursday in middle of day, supporters of the outgoing mayor of Delmas, Wilson Jeudy, had demonstrated with violence in Delmas

Delmas Mayor Jeudy has received a discharge certificate releasing him from his duties as public funds manager of the Superior Court of Auditors and Administrative Disputes (SCAAD).

Supporters want him to run for another term and held violent protests to ensure his candidacy. Jeudy would not be able to mount a campaign for mayor without leave from his responsibilities at SCAAD.

Jeudy has held the mayor's office since 2006 under the Martelly government.
