The mosquito-borne virus chikungunya is not fatal but causes severe joint pain. It has been spreading across Haiti. Other countries affected include The Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and several other Caribbean islands.

Chikungunya is something new to Haiti. This mosquito-borne virus was first detected over 50 years ago in Tanzania. It quickly spread in other regions in Africa, Asia and India. In December 2013, the first case of chikungunya was detected in the Caribbean, in the island of St. Martin. The first known case of chikungunya in Haiti was recorded in May, 2014.

The illness will likely not kill you. However, according to many, it is a painful disease. The pain inflicted by the mosquito-borne virus chikungunya is usually concentrated in the bones and is accompanied by high fever and rashes.

This illness is called by many Haitians: kraze le zo. Also some refer to chikungunya as " Chickin Gouyad"

Here is a picture of Rony Thimothée, spokesman of the FOPARK.

The opponent of the government of Michel Martelly and spokesman of the FOPARK received his arrest on Saturday, close to the International Airport Toussaint Louverture.

Rony Timothee as arrested as he was in a car. According to sources, he was presented in front of a judge and the taken to Jail in Petion-Ville. Based on information released to the press by inspector Garry Desrosiers, Haiti National Police was actively looking for Mr. Rony Timothee as a warrant was issued against him. He has been accused for disturbing public order and vehicles fire on April 28.

Also it was reported that following the violent protest of May 14, several individuals who had been victimized complained to the Police.

Twenty four hours before the arrest of FOPARK leader Rony Timothee, the minister of Justice released a note to the public asking them not to participate in any protest considered by the government to be violent

These six senators are also in complete opposition to the El Rancho agreement reached between the Executive government, the Legislative and other sectors of the Haitian society

On Friday, May 9, 2014, a ceremony took place at the Court of Cassation located in Route Frères, 7 of 9 CEP representatives were sworn. Two of the current members elected not to participate, Me. Néhémy Joseph and Léopold Berlanger.

Present for the ceremony were: Marie Clunie Dumay Miracles, Pierre Simon Georges, Applys Félix, Marie Carole Innocent Floreal Duclervil, Gloria Margarette Girault Saint-Louis, Jacqueline Patricia Chantale Raymond and Frizto Canton

Now the question is: with less than the full CEP ready to start the process for the next election in Haiti, will the election take place?

Here it is. Fritzto Canton, the attorney for former Dictator Jean Claude Duvalier, has been named by President michel Martelly to head the CEP.

Since this nomination, there have been lot of comments made by various sectors of the population.

Some of the critics suggested that the change in the CEP confirms that the neo-Duvalier regime will do whatever is necessary to stay in power.

Here is a picture of Mr. Markington Philippe accused in the crime of Journalist Jean Dominique. , suspect Jean Dominique killing, arrested in Argentina. According to information received in our office, and news just published on bernama.com, the Haitian press freedom watchdog, SOS Journalistes, has confirmed that Argentine authorities have arrested Mr. Markington Philippe in Argentine.

The two governments were in the process of working together to extradite Markington Philippe to Haiti to stand in trial.

This arrest took place as a result of an investigation that was conducted by Judge Ivickel Dabrezil and an international arrest warrant was issued consequently for his arrest
