Here is a picture of orphanage founder Michael Geilenfeld who was falsely accused of abusing children in his care.
In the late 2011, Paul Kendrick, a Maine activist for sexual abuse victims, led an email and blog campaign accusing Michael Geilenfeld, the founder of St. Joseph's Home for Boys and North Carolina-based 'Hearts with Haiti' in allegation of child abuse. He accused Geilenfeld as a serial pedophile and 'Hearts with Haiti' of refusing to do anything about him. On his claim, the Department of Homeland Security had launched an exhaustive investigation and found them to be baseless. It was found that Kendrick had never visited any of the three children's homes for disabled and disadvantaged children in Haiti run by the defendants and the jury has awarded $7 million in damages to Michael Geilenfeld and $7.5 million to the Hearts with Haiti. The false allegation had kept Geilenfeld behind the bars for 237 days and cost 'Hearts with Haiti' several million dollars in donations.
Haitian Embassy evicted in Pretoria for Rent Non-Payment
Here is a picture of the Haitian Embassy in Pretoria South Africa as possessions of the property were taken to a storage after a judge had had ordered the local sheriff to remove the belonging.
The order was issued this Friday and the eviction procedure took place on Friday as well.
On July 18th, Judge Janse van Nieuwenhuizen of the Pretoria High Court has given an attachment order under the principle of "tacit hypothec", to attach all the moveable properties of the Haitian embassy in Waterkloof, in Pretoria for non-payment of rent for 10 months aggregating US$44,265 (South African Rand 550,500). When as per the court order, the local Sheriff accompanying his men arrived at the embassy and started loading a truck with furniture of the embassy, they were stopped by the embassy staff who argued that their property cannot be attached as they enjoy diplomatic immunity. Earlier, the staff had called the Diplomatic Police and had informed that an armed robbery is taking place in the embassy premises. When the Diplomatic police arrived at the spot, they found none other than the Sheriff and his men. However, the embassy staff were informed by the landlord's legal representative that diplomatic immunity is not available on commercial transactions like rent payment.
The Embassy was located at:
826 - 830 Government Avenue
Eastwood, Pretoria. 0083
Gauteng - South Africa
Andrés Navarro, conditions for dialogue with Haiti not met
Here is a picture of Mr. Andrés Navarro, Dominican Chancellor who stated that the conditions for dialogue with Haiti have not been met.
The Dominican Chancellor Andrés Navarro, as a reaction to the statement of Luis Almagro, the Uruguayan Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS) to hold a dialogue and resolve the crisis between the Haitian and Dominican authorities on the migration issue, has said that the situation is not yet ripe since the Haitian authority has maintained an aggressive stance without meeting some preconditions necessary for the dialogue. He has further added that, two nations can never sit before an agenda while one keeps throwing unfounded allegation on the other. The Dominican authority needs to see a clear change of signal from the Haitian government that it has changed its attitude towards the Dominican Republic.
Haiti's Cervical Cancer Epidemic
Did you know that Haiti has the highest number of women with Cervical cancer in the world?
The risk factors for cervical cancer include human papillomavirus (HPV) infection, smoking, taking birth control pills, and engaging in early sexual contact.
Statistical figures suggest that cervical cancer, one of the main causes of cancer deaths, is a disease of poverty; it is more prevalent among the poor and 85% of cervical cancer occurs in the developing world with a 50% mortality rate all around the world. Haiti has the highest incidence of cervical cancer in the world. The people in the poor countries are more susceptible to this form of the disease because the latest detection tools like 'Pap smear screening test', etc. are not easily available in these countries, the presence of very few well equipped laboratories and skilled personnel make the situation worse. The poor people, especially from remote locations cannot continue necessary treatments and some of the recommend follow up tests. According to some health experts, a test with vinegar, named 'VIA' (visual inspection with acetic acid) can be a good low cost solution in such circumstances.
President Martelly as Sweet Micky, Pete, Pete, Pete
Here is a picture taken during a concert on June 26, 2015 in Champ-de-Mars, Port-au-Prince, Haiti with with Lil Waine and Chris Brown. At one time, President Michel Martelly took to the stage to cheer the crowd. President Martelly invited crowd to fart by saying, Pete, Pete, Pete.
While 300,000 Haitians are being deported from the Dominic Republic as stateless people, this weekend his son Oliver Martelly brought Chris Brown (American recording artist, dancer and actor) and Lil Wayne (an American rapper from New Orleans) to Haiti in private jet and spent over $1,000,000 state fund for his father's Champ de Mars concert. Olivier Martelly has already been accused of misappropriating over $20,000,000 from the State Treasury. The money could be better used in buying rice-and-beans for Haiti's starving kids, or could help the 300,000 Haitians susceptible for deportation from the Dominican Republic. The country is before a disastrous refugee situation - a situation that Martelly says does not exist! President Martelly sang a song titled "I Don't Care" at the Champ de Mars concert to support his 22 year-old dud son Sandro Martelly (Ti- Martelly or little Micky) as he was involved in the show. The concert was free and broadcasted on television channels, but, the performance of the Haitian President in the show was unlikely for a President of any normal country.
